The Calabrians & Vonnyguts live at TFIF

The Calabrians bring a uniquely Australian hard rock edge to the stage, driven by the legendary Pip Pupillo, co-founder and frontman of veteran alt-country/rock band The T-Bones. With over 35 years of experience, Pip's distinctive voice and style are unmistakable. Teaming up with Baz Valance, a skilled guitarist with a metal background, The Calabrians deliver a high-energy sound influenced by iconic bands like AC/DC, Sunnyboys, Radiobirdman, and REM.

The combination of Pip's rough, emotive style and Baz's slick, metal-infused guitar work has created something truly special. The Calabrians' music is a testament to the enduring power of Australian rock, with songs that explore themes of heartbreak, isolation, and everyday life. With their unique sound and wealth of experience, The Calabrians are a force to be reckoned with in the Australian rock scene.

Fomora 'The Trial of Syla' Album Launch

Fomora launch 'The Trial of Syla', their debut record and the first chapter in the psychedelic jazz-rock chronicle 'A Tale from Fomora'.

"A blight descends upon the Northern Moors of Fomora. Grain shoots wither and die in the fields. Villagers are sick with a mysterious illness that defies the charms of local healers. Hope lies in the retrieval of the All-Seeing Glass, an ancient crystal sought in times of darkness, and in the young shepherd Syla, chosen to recover the relic. Through conquest of forests, mountains and unspeakable beasts, Syla will become a hero."

Recorded in 2023 with Patrick Ryan AKA Cantrips at the Dune Castle Throne Room in Thornbury, the release follows singles such as 'The Temple of Gwyndil' and 'Snakehips'.

Fomora will have vinyl records available for sale on the night.

The group will be joined by a stellar lineup of friends and companions

Impossiblistic – a night of surreal performance

Impossiblistic is back for all those who tire of reality and need a holiday from existence. Indulge in the bizarre and the beautiful, with avant-garde theatre, surreal spoken word, absurd puppetry, experimental music, wild costumes and artistic chaos. Witness standout acts from the recent Festival of Surrealisms and have a seemingly impossible universe transported directly to your hearts and minds.

Katie Lohner – Join THE HUNGRY POET as she slings open her fridge and share the contents of her desires. A dynamic feast for the senses filled with delicious storytelling.

Steve Smart has puppet fever! It may have started when he discovered he is half-Muppet. Prepare for poems and silly songs from the mouths of strange creatures.

Helchild – Satirical comedian, comic poet and vis artist performs as President Donald Dump, a dodgy, shit-spouting, human turd of immense effluence.Sean O’Callaghan, an Irish-Melbourne writer of poems and essays usually involving confusion, laughter and the occasional philosophical breakthrough he didn’t mean to have.

Brendan Gray (Gold Gull, Ill Gotten Booty) and Chris Chapple (Autohaze, Humans) will perform three improvised sets between acts for Impossiblistic. Expect some far out sounds and strange musical directions.

Duff Gregfield is Neville the Angst-Ridden Pirate. Once every hundred years Neville leaves Davy Jones Locker to tell his tale of woe, madness, and unprecedented cosmic horror.

DURABA – Who or what the heck is Duraba?!

Laura Fisher and Vasi Samudra Devi’s one act play tackles the slightly outdated Devonian dilemma, should fishapods stay or should fishapods go? Feat Laura & Helchild.

Lulu Lala is a maker of weirdly jolly masks, puppets and costumes. For this event they will be performing unhinged and flapping puppety stuff with Eddy.

Eddy Burger presents his comic surreal play, B-Grade Monster Melodrama staring Katie Lohner, Jez Speelman, Lulu Lala and Eddy.

Roda de Samba

A true celebration of samba, where musicians gather in a circle to play, sing, and share the genre’s contagious energy. The vibe is vibrant and participatory, with everyone getting into the rhythm.

A deeply rooted Brazilian tradition, it takes place in bars, backyards, and cultural spaces, where samba singers take turns leading songs. Unlike a staged performance, a roda de samba is communal—people sing along, dance, and clap to the beat. The atmosphere is spontaneous and full of energy, with musicians feeding off each other, making every roda a unique and immersive experience.

Summer Acoustica

Come and chill out to an evening crossing many genres from acoustic to blues to ambient with Sonia Serin and more.

Here is a tightened, grammatically polished version of the bio. I have smoothed out the punctuation and flowed the text into a cohesive narrative perfect for a program or event landing page.

Sonia Serin is a multi-instrumentalist powerhouse and a self-described "technical whiz" behind the drum kit, Sonia Serin delivers a sophisticated fusion of eccentric, upbeat soul and emotive folk. Described by Proud Camden as both a stellar guitarist and a deeply moving piano player, Sonia has built an international reputation through her commanding stage presence and raw, honest songwriting. Her career is anchored by a history of high-profile performances, having shared the stage with artists such as Pete Murray and the Mason Rack Band, and graced the lineups of the Woodford Folk Festival and Camden Calling in the UK.

During her time living in London, Sonia headlined prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s Bar and The Spice of Life, experiences that later informed her 2015 debut EP, Everyone in Small Doses. Her more recent work, the 2019 album UNRESOLVED, marks a profound evolution in her artistry. The record serves as a sonic journey through healing and transformation, blending haunting cello tones with soulful soprano vocals. From the ancestral reflections of the instrumental track "Syria" to the cathartic themes of her title track, Sonia’s music navigates the complexities of grief and the beauty of finding peace within the "unresolved," offering audiences a truly immersive and atmospheric experience.

The goal is simple. Join us to watch or participate in one of our six weekly gatherings where local musicians, both accomplished and amateur, get up to showcase a small set of songs infront of a supportive audience.

It was born our of the Westgarth Idol - a fundraising event for Westgarth Primary - over 15 years ago and is made up of people who are both directly and indirectly linked to local school communities.

Got a song you've always wanted to sing?

As it's a collective, we have a bunch of willing collaborators for any song you may have in mind, so please contact us if you have something in mind you'd like to do?

We're not an open-mic, or a karaoke session, but if you have a direct or indirect link to members of the Collective, you can contact us to play! We particularly encourage women to put their hands up!

Our aim is to build social connection across the community using music as a means to gather together regularly.

Sign up via pinkosessions@gmail.com or just drop in for a pint or for a squiz of the live music.

STOCK

STOCK play music as predictable and varied as Melbourne’s weather. This electrifiying quartet was formed in 2011 as a vehicle to workshop and perform Wilson’s original compositions. Formerly known as “B for Chicken” they have been performing regularly in Melbourne, developing material and refining the groups powerful, unified, interactive style. While the gentle, lyrical inclinations so evident in Wilson’s long-running trio (and the quartet which recorded This is Always) are still present, this project provides an outlet for the more explosive side of his musical personality. The band reference Ellington & Coltrane while leaning forward to embrace the 21st Century, with a nod to everything in between.

The inspiration for forming this band comes from the flexibility and drive of Hugh Harvey’s astoundingly musical drumming, Fermanis’ blues-drenched, rock-singed, take-no-prisoners guitar work, and the virtuosic beauty and creative flair of Chris Hale’s 6 string bass guitar poetry. Craig, Chris and Hugh are some of the busiest musicians in Melbourne, running their own projects, teaching, touring and recording with artists including The Cat Empire, The Meltdown, Gotye, the AAO & the MSO.

In 2018/2019 STOCK have been recording and producing their long overdue debut, assisted by a recording grant from the Australia Council for the Arts. Seizing the album as an opportunity to rebrand as STOCK they will be officially releasing the album early in 2020. It will be available on CD, as a High Definition 32bit digital download, and as a Collector’s Edition LP on Gold Vinyl presented in a gatefold cover featuring stunning art by Dale Cox.

Julien Wilson – tenor sax
Craig Fermanis – electric guitar
Chris Hale – bass guitar
Hugh Harvey – drums

The Putbacks - Kickin' the B at 303

The Putbacks are Melbourne’s premier grit-and-soul ensemble. Established in 2007, the group has become the "stone-cold pro" backbone of the Australian soul scene, most notably through their multi-award-winning collaboration with Indigenous powerhouse Emma Donovan.

Comprising Mick Meagher (bass), Rory McDougall (drums), Tom Martin (guitar), and Simon Mavin (keys), the band specializes in raw, fluid, and razor-sharp funk that pays homage to the Stax and Atlantic traditions while maintaining a distinctly Naarm/Melbourne identity.

The Putbacks take their cues from the great house bands of the 60s and 70s soul studios - think of The MGs, The Meters and The Wrecking Crew, as well as film composers from David Axelrod to Adrian Younge and contemporary instrumental groups BADBADNOTGOOD and Khruangbin.
