T Bones + The Calabrians

The T-bones

The T Bones are back down at Bar303 with a few new songs we’ve been working on as well as the old faves. Supporting brand new act, The Calabrians, The T- bones put their fine song writing and performing on display. Spanning the great rural/urban divide…songs of heartbreak & isolation, lost love, footy teams that never win and cars that just won’t start…You know what you have to do…  get em on, get down there and get going!!

The Calabrians

Melbournes rock scene is about to be infiltrated by The Calabrians. . Playing their debut gig at Bar 303, Melbourne's newest hard rock band The Calabrians are keen to show what they’ve got. Co founder Pip Pupillo has spent the last 35+ years fronting veteran Alt country/rock band The T-bones, but decided at age 56 to start a hard rock band with his old buddy Baz Valance. Valance is a slick guitarist with a metal background and Pupillo says the combination of his rough style with the slickness of Valance has produced something special. Influences range from AC/DC to the Sunnyboys to Radiobirdman and REM and their sound posses that uniquely Australian hard rock edge. The Calabrians are here.

Darryl Kerrigan Appreciators Ensemble Collective

The Darryl Kerrigan Appreciators Ensemble Collective is a genre-defying band that channels the unpretentious genius and deep Aussie soul of The Castle’s Darryl Kerrigan through the medium of improvised groove.

Featuring Max Bruten and Arthur Xafis on guitars, Sam William Watts on bass, Alby Rolfe on drums, and Ashley Ballet on trumpet, this ensemble brings together some of Melbourne’s most exciting improvisers. Their music is loose, joyful, and fiercely present — capturing the defiantly heartfelt spirit of Darryl himself, whose faith in the simple things still rings true: the vibe, the people, the pool room.

Bring yourselves, bring your mates, bring your mum and dad - if anyone tells you they can’t make what is sure to be a remarkable night of music making:

“Tell ‘em they’re dreamin’.”

Pinko Collective

Pinko Collective is a community organisation that aims to help build a strong community and support postive mental health. It does this by connecting people through music.

The goal is simple. Join us to watch or participate in one of our six weekly gatherings where local musicians, both accomplished and amateur, get up to showcase a small set of songs infront of a supportive audience.

It was born our of the Westgarth Idol - a fundraising event for Westgarth Primary - over 15 years ago and is made up of people who are both directly and indirectly linked to local school communities.

Got a song you've always wanted to sing?

As it's a collective, we have a bunch of willing collaborators for any song you may have in mind, so please contact us if you have something in mind you'd like to do?

We're not an open-mic, or a karaoke session, but if you have a direct or indirect link to members of the Collective, you can contact us to play! We particularly encourage women to put their hands up!

Our aim is to build social connection across the community using music as a means to gather together regularly.

Sign up via pinkosessions@gmail.com or just drop in for a pint or for a squiz of the live music.

8pm doors, $20 cash entry

The Putbacks are stone cold pros, grizzled veterans of all the tours and all the studios. As individuals, they’re the players behind so many bands it’s difficult to list. Their collaboration with Emma Donovan elevates their music and Emma’s songs to another level, an enigmatic sound that can be heard on their most recent release Under These Streets (2021) written in the depths of lockdown, and prior to this Crossover (2020).

The Putbacks take their cues from the great house bands of the 60s and 70s soul studios - think of The MGs, The Meters and The Wrecking Crew, as well as film composers from David Axelrod to Adrian Younge and contemporary instrumental groups BADBADNOTGOOD and Khruangbin.

It’s Hector’s Wednesdays in June at Bar 303 of course, where you will be warmed by the music, saved by conversation and brightened by the fun of it all. Yes it’s true, every single Wednesday in June except for the 18th because I have a school concert and they won’t let me leave, my quartet and I will be playing at Bar 303 which is super close to where you live!
